Videos of exceptional singing artists on The Last Verista

Several of you have written to ask about my favourite singers or who one should listen to in order to understand certain aesthetics.  I have included a VodPod gadget in the side bar of my blog where I will periodically add videos of singers and performances that I think standout as staples of operatic singing.  I have chosen my favourites for now and you’ll note that most of them are the voices of the past, with some exceptional singers from today.  There is a reason for that and much of it has to do with authenticity and dedication to a style that seems to have dissipated in many regards today.  That being said, however, we can all learn from these voices and yet maintain the foundations of opera as they were intended.  Opera wouldn’t be opera without the voices and these videos represent those performers who stand on terra firma as true singing artists.

The Last Verista wants you to help support Ovarian Cancer Research in honour of soprano, Stacey Micoli and Geri Tallone for 2010

This past year, my dear friends and I have lost two wonderful, artistic individuals to Ovarian Cancer.  Stacey Micoli was a beautiful young soprano and a graduate of the University at Buffalo, and Geri Tallone a great broadway and popular voice who graced New York and other American cities with her soulful beauty.  As an honour to them this holiday season and the notion that our artists are suffering from a disease that is in need of continued research, I have posted a widget on this blog for you to offer your support in this cause.  To Geri, Stacey, and all others who have been affected by Ovarian Cancer, we are strong with you.  God Bless.
